Reviews:
Computer Shopper, November 1997
"Reader Rabbit can take even the smallest schoolchildren to
Camp Happy Tail, where they can learn and have fun without getting homesick.
The Learning Co.'s Reader Rabbit's Kindergarten is part of a new line of
multisubject educational programs. Kindergarten is designed for children aged 4
to 6, and offers excellent activities that reinforce reading, counting, and
thinking skills.
"Kids have to help Mat the Mouse find enough supplies to
hold a campfire party. In what amounts to a high-tech scavenger hunt, children
play a variety of amusing activities to obtain the necessary items, including
food, decorations, and camping gear. When kids successfully find all the items,
they get invited to attend an entertaining campfire party, complete with songs
and stories.
"The Number Lumber activity asks kids to count logs and
rocks to help a friendly beaver cross a river. Another activity lets youngsters
find different shapes, objects, letters, and numbers in a simple
Concentration-style game, and locate an alarm clock by listening to directions:
above, below, and right and left. Kids are also presented with social
situations in which they learn to share and be nice to others.
"Reader Rabbit's Kindergarten has good graphics and
animation and cute characters. The title resembles Creative Wonder's
Get Set for Kindergarten Deluxe, which stars
Sesame Street characters. In our testing, children preferred the Sesame Street
title, but Reader Rabbit's Kindergarten is nevertheless an entertaining and
compelling program, with a solid educational basis."
