Nettwerk Productions Reference Ratings:
New-Age-FolkieSarah McLachlan is truly one of music's most unique breakthrough artists. Her Platinum third album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, was nominated for a Grammy award as Best Alternative Music Performance and brought Sarah some of the most powerful critical acclaim of the year: "Vocally, she is an heir of the young Joni Mitchell. Singing in a clear, pristine folk-pop voice, she conveys the pained sensitivity of a dreamer idealist whose life is one continual loss of innocence." -The New York Times "Gorgeous... Sarah McLachlan writes from love's ragged edges." -Time Magazine. Now Sarah McLachlan expands her singular vision to The Freedom Sessions, a personal journey through her life and music. The first ever Enhanced CD project from a major artist, The Freedom Sessions embraces the pinnacle of both music and technology - and presents the unique artistry that is Sarah McLachlan at her best. Additionally, The Freedom Sessions features eight songs (playable on home stereo CD systems), newly recorded live and acoustic in the studio by Sarah and her band, featuring previously unreleased versions of fan favorites from Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Interactive music, video and more featuring:
Requirements:Includes Quicktime 2.0 for Windows and Macintosh Computers. Macintosh System 7 or Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or greater), double speed CD-ROM player, minimum 8 MB RAM and color monitor.
Reviews:Electronic Entertainment, May 1995 "New-age-folkie Sarah McLachlan may seem like an odd choice for multimedia pioneer status. But the Freedom Sessions from Nettwerk Productions proves that multimedia music discs can work well in any genre." "McLachlan broke out last year on alternative radio with her hypnotic single "Possession". Clips from the excellent "Possession" video, along with video cuts of six other songs from her three albums, serve up an aural and visual sampling of her work. The title also offers up vignettes of McLachlan talking about her work, her band, and her tours, including clips of her Thailand benefit tour. The package is rounded out with engaging artwork and eight unreleased audio-only versions of McLachlan tunes, including her sweet cover of Tom Waits' "OI'55" - a big 1970's hit for The Eagles."
