Screen Saver
Images of the Civil War from the Library of
Congress
No other event matches the impact of the American Civil War on the history
of the United States. Each side expected to prevail in a brief and glorius
conflict. Instead, Americans battled Americans for four tragic and bloody
years. Familes were sundered, cities were laid waste, and more than half a
million lives were lost. America emerged united from the brutal convulsion, but
its wounds were terrible.
This screen saver draws on the unparalled Civil War collections of the
Library of Congress - including photographs, drawings, maps, manuscripts,
books, bradsides, periodicals, popular art, and music - for twenty seven
extraordinary images that provide a telling glimpse into a defining episode in
US history.
This screensaver software is easy to install on Mac- or PC-based systems.
Each screensaver includes twenty-seven images. The package can be set up to
allow the user to change the screensaver and desktop wallpaper images manually,
or to have the software cycle through some or all of the images automatically
at designated intervals. Detailed information (media, dimensions, date, etc.)
for each image, and a concise biography of the artist, may be had at the click
of a mouse.
