Simon Is Back and Can't Wait To Show
You His Features.
Simon . He appeared in two very successful adventure games,
where he got up to all sorts of boyish high-jinks and managed to offend or
upset pretty much everyone he met. Little did he know that they were all
laughing at him behind his back, because he thought that a pony tail, red cloak
and pointy hat were dead cool.
Anyway, it's now the twenty-first century, and Simon has
returned, this time in glorious 3D-o-vision. Tragically, he still thinks that
sporting a pony tail, red cloak and pointy hat is a cutting-edge fashion
statement - a post-modernist juxtaposition of form against function. The people
still laugh at him.
But they really should take notice - because soon, they will
need Simon more than they could possibly imagine. The fate of the universe
rests in his hands, the fragile lives of millions balance on the tip of his
comedy hat, and his only chance of getting home relies on him finding Dungeon
Master whilst saving Bobby and Uni from the claws of Venger -The Force of Evil
(...sorry, wrong story...).
The existence of everything
really does rely on him though. And he needs you to help....

Mr.
Bill's Adventureland
"Hooray! Simon, the bad boy of sorcery, is finally back
again after a very long wait... But it's finally here, and we can tell you
right now that it was well worth the wait. It's a funny, very challenging,
totally engrossing game! Of all the games that we've played, we can only think
of two others (Myst and The Longest Journey) that have kept us this enthralled,
and glued to our computer for days at a time."
"His attitude does cause him
some problems however, not the least of which is his current situation, since
the story begins where the last game left off. For those of you who aren't
familiar with the first two games in this very popular series (Simon 1 and
Simon 2), Simon got himself trapped in this magical fantasy world by really
pissing off the local bad guy, an evil magician named Sordid. He made the
mistake of killing Sordid in the first Simon the Sorcerer game, and so
naturally Sordid got even in the second game ..... by stealing Simon's body! So
as we rejoin him now, his first concern is to get his body back. But then he
needs to find a way to refuel the Wardrobe that brought him here in the first
place, so that he can finally get out of this crazy world and get back home.
And it won't be easy (nothing ever is with Simon), because Sordid is still
plotting to take over the universe."
"The gaming world is enormous (temple, forest, village,
swamp, etc) and beautifully rendered, with stylized and highly detailed,
colorful backgrounds. The music is varied to location and it's delightful, and
the voice acting is absolutely perfect, with many new and memorable characters
in addition to some of our old favorites, like Swampy and the hysterical
Woodworms and Demons. It's an extremely challenging game, and never boring. You
no sooner solve one set of mysteries than a new one appears, and the many
puzzles involved in each are innovative and fascinating..."
"But be forewarned that there are some problems with this
game because of insufficient testing... The problems may involve anything from
minor graphical distortions, to ones like freezing, or being suddenly kicked
out of the game and back to your desktop. So we strongly recommend that you do
what we did...(See
Mr. Bill's Website)."
Quandary
Reviews by Gordon Alpin
"There was a time when many of us thought that we would
never see Simon the Sorcerer 3D released. The publishing problems that
HeadFirst/Adventure Soft faced must have been the stuff of nightmares.
Fortunately the game is now available and, with some reservations, I for one am
utterly delighted."
"One of the things
I really enjoyed in the earlier Simon games was the complexity of the puzzles
and the convoluted way they were integrated into the story and I am pleased to
report that Simon 3D continues that very fine tradition. There are lots of
items to pick up and use in all sorts of humorous ways, and many strange
characters to talk to who will help or hinder you as you progress through the
game. Many familiar characters make a welcome return including Calypso, Swampy,
Runt, the manic woodworms, the hapless demons and, my favourites, the role
playing characters in the lonely hut. The traditional adventuring puzzles are
fun and absorbing and some require a good deal of ingenuity to work out. On a
few occasions towards the end of the game some more feedback in the form of
hints (thoughts or observations) from Simon would have been helpful, especially
for new Simon devotees."
"...I thoroughly enjoyed playing Simon 3D. The
pure adventure portions were fun and it was just so good to be
challenged by the many devious puzzles and entertained by Simons wit and
inimitable attitude. The game was so engrossing it kept pulling me
back despite HeadFirst succumbing to 3Ds arcade/action attraction.
HeadFirst certainly know how to construct a truly engaging, humorous adventure
game and they have successfully brought that experience into a 3D game world.
The end game hints at a sequel so it is my plea that if arcade sequences
absolutely have to be included then why not add an alternative adventure puzzle
solution or, at the very least, offer a cheat mode? Of course, if you are an
adventure fan who doesn't mind a bit of arcade action then you will have no
complaints at all."
