The encounter: While on patrol near the Straits of Malacca, the U.S.S. Jack, under Lt. Cmdr. T.M. "Tommy" Dykers, spotted a column of ships...

Results of the encounter: The Jack had scored a big one, a convoy of five fully loaded oil tankers with three escorts. Dykers quickly moved into attack position and picked off the lead tanker. Diving to evade the escorts, Dykers quickly reacquired the convoy. Then, in an early morning attack, the U.S.S. Jack accomplished what no other sub had ever done - sinking four oil tankers in a single day...
