Riding High or Riding for a Fall - This Is the Ride of your Life!

Now you can take a trip to fame and fortune by building the biggest, best, scariest and most thrilling rides ever seen in any theme park. Can you make money in this volatile business? Can you become the ultimate Roller Coaster Tycoon?

Design and construct your own roller coaster rides, or choose from fantastic pre-built designs, all with accurately simulated motion dynamics.

Raise the prices, increase research, monitor your customers' moods, fire your staff - all at the click of the mouse.

Take advantage of technology as it develops; from the traditional 'Wooden Roller Coaster', to the high-tec 'Steel Corkscrew' and the terrifying 'Reverse Freefall'.

Raise and lower land and water levels to enhance your rides, build tracks underground, in tunnels or suspended over lakes.

Invest in food and drink stalls, hire entertainers and deck out your park with themes, color schemes, trees, statures and fountains, making it more attractive to your public.

Carry out over 20 mission-based scenarios in a diverse range of environments.

View all events instantly and clearly with superbly detailed quality graphics, menus and message boards.

Personalize and customize to your hearts content - you can save your roller coaster designs to use in other scenarios.

But remember, where there's an up, there'll always be a down. The rides may break down, you could get bad publicity from fatal crashes, the weather might be terrible! RISE or FALL, BOOM or BUST, you're in charge of it ALL: giving your visitors what they want for the right price.

PC Gamer, September 1999

"Build the theme park of your dreams in MicroProse's Rollercoaster Tycoon, a whimsical strategy game that's easy enough for the novice, but has enough depth to appease the master of the genre."

"Want to add a little extra something to spice up your roller-coaster designs? Here are a few suggestions, courtesy of designer Chris Sawyer.

"How about positioning a corkscrew so that it twists over a footpath? Nearby guests will be fascinated by it, and riders will get an extra thrill.

"Building a pair of racing roller coasters is an obvious idea, but there are many ways to make it a bit more interesting. Such as, two tracks twisting over and around each other by using a pair of parallel corkscrews. Perhaps an even better variation of this would be to have the tracks running in opposite directions, and timing the trains so they pass each other on the corkscrews."
