England, Anno Domini 1190

It is the darkest period of the English Middle Ages. King Richard the Lionheart is on a Crusade in the Holy Land, fighting to liberate Jerusalem from the heathens. The nobles he has left behind, led by Prince John Lackland, rule over the simple peasants with an iron hand, and this pure force of arms forces them to bend to authority. Only one man takes up the struggle against the oppressors, supported by a small band of brave and loyal followers. His name: Robin Hood.

After a long absence, Robin of Locksley returns to England from his adventures in the Crusades. However he feels little joy upon returning home, since the country has changed since his departure. The peasants are being brutally oppressed by the Norman nobility. If anyone resists, they end up on the gallows or lose their land. Not even the Saxon nobility is spared: While Robin was fighting in the Holy Land, Lord Locksley – Robin’s father – died, and since Robin too was declared dead, his father’s lands have become the property of the scheming Sheriff of Nottingham.

And so begins the Legend of Sherwood. Of Robin Hood, the outlaw loyal to the king, who stole from the rich to give to the poor.

Characters

Robin Hood
Charismatic leader of the rebels of Sherwood Forest. Fights for the poor, whether Norman or Saxon, and is a true follower of the lawful King Richard the Lionheart.

Lady Marian
Determined young noblewoman who is undyingly in love with Robin Hood. She supports him as a reconnaissance agent and spy with information from Prince John’s court.

Little John
Former peasant, who despite his gigantic build is a very good-natured character. Sometimes he tends to fly off the handle- however his wrath is always directed at the Norman oppressors and their henchmen.

Will Scarlet
Will Scarlet is Robin Hood’s nephew. He is fighting the Normans out of personal conviction since Sir Godwin was dispossessed and imprisoned. His liking for the colour red earned him the nickname “Scarlet.”

Friar Tuck
Lady Marian’s confessor. He is said to enjoy a good meal. Apart from this he is a masterly brewer of beer- and makes barley beer primarily for his own consumption. As Lady Marian’s confessor he feels under an obligation to her, and this is why he does his best to help her and Robin.

Stutely
Stutely is an old friend of Robin’s. He was the original leader of the group of peasants which Robin rescued from the gallows. He is passionate about making things and helps Robin Hood to build the band’s headquarters in Sherwood Forest.

Reviews:

ActionTrip by Dusan Katilovic

"We all know the story of the legendary thief that steals from the rich and gives to the poor both from the stories and movies about Robin Hood. Strategy First decided to rekindle the flames of the old legend and publish a squad-based tactical strategy game - Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood. Simply put, this is a conceptual follower of Commandos and Desperados, featuring many new refreshing elements."

"...The camera has been perfectly positioned, and the powerful zoom in/out will not only be useful during gameplay, but display the rich and detailed graphics of this game at its best. The game has it all: the lush surroundings will create a perfect atmosphere of medieval England, and together with the well animated characters they will make you feel a part of Robin Hood's adventures. The sound is not as good as the graphics, but it is still far from bad, and does in no way affect the in-game atmosphere."
