It's Opening Night in the Theater of Battle...
And You've Got a Front Row Seat
From the creators of the award-winning classic M1 Tank Platoon comes the
most realistic modern ground warfare simulation anywhere in the world - M1 Tank
Platoon II.
Everything here is hyper-real: the thermal view, the trees, the 70 vehicles
and even the helicopters that intelligently hide behind hills. It's as close as
you can get without being classified
This is not just a tank simulation. M1 Tank Platoon II puts you in
command of aircraft, helicopters, non-tank ground vehicles and infantry.
You are responsible for every man in your 4 - tank platoon, but
look out after them: they'll learn from each battle and return to serve you
better.
For more strategic gameplay, mastermind and execute your entire
battle strategy using only the map view.
Bring a whole new dimension to the special effects in M1 with a
3Dfx graphics accelerator.
The original M1 Tank Platoon was lauded by critics as an instant classic
back in 1989. Computer Gaming World named it Simulation of the Year and since
then it has secured a spot in CGW's all-time Hall of Fame. Now with the release
of M1 Tank Platoon II, MicroProse once again is setting a new benchmark for
ground warfare sims.
MicroProse's design and engineering team, led by M1's original visionary and
creator Scott Spanburg, has reconstructed the M1A2 with breathaking accuracy.
In fact, Mr. Spanburg's exacting vision has heightened gameplay with amazing
graphic intensity, dynamic multiplayer action and new Marine platoons. Simply
put, M1 Tank Platoon II is positioned to become yet another time-honored
classic by taking modern ground warfare simulation to a whole new stratosphere.
Your rank: Platoon Commander. Your platoon: Four M1A2 Abrams
tanks. Your mission: Secure peace through superior firepower. Your
command views: Top-Down Map, to plan strategy and call in air and artillery
support; External 3-D, to observe conflict firsthand; and Internal Cockpits
(gunner's and commander's), to put you right on the firing line. Detailed
thermal views add to the "you are there" realism. You are responsible
for the life of every man in your platoon; you can even be reprimanded for a
successful battle if the human toll is too high. But look after your men, and
they;ll look after you: your platoon learns from each successful battle to
fight and serve you better in the next conflict.
Single Battle
Commanders are not born, they are made by precise and demanding training. So
brush up on your main tactical battle skills with the two complete training
modules provided before you risk real lives in a deadly combat situation. And
when you're ready for real combat, try the Random Battle mode, where the
computer gives you instant action with a random battle scenario that pits you
agianst front-line Russian equipment. Then move on to a variety of
preconfigured battles and replay great historical and hypothetical conflicts:
Gulf War scenarios include the famous 6-minute 73 Easting Encounter, in which
the Iraqis lost over 50 tanks without creating one U.S. casualry. And classic
Cold War encounters such as the Fulda Gap scenario provide an even stiffer
challenge.
Campaign
Ready to try your hand as a military strategist? Sign on for a Campaign and
fight a string of battles within the same theater. You choose a theater of war
(Gulf War II, North Africa, the Russian Far East, the Balkans or Central
Europe), then the computer generates a new campaign. As you move forward,
you'll receive a genuine 5 paragraph briefing. But listen carefully, every
mission is dictated by your strategic mastery from previous missions.
Realistically, some targets will rebuild themselves as the campaign evolves,
while others will be destroyed by friendly units.
Multiplayer
So, you have what it takes to command a tank. What about your friends? Four
players each command one tank within the same platoon, while a fifth takes
charge of the competing forces! Fight your battle over the network. Or for a
two-player battle simply use a modem or serial connection.
