The Strategy Game of Modern Naval Warfare
Sitting in the frigid waters off the Norwegian Sea, you guard the coastline and begin to plan a
full-scale naval assault on the enemy. Suddenly, sensors report a hidden submarine 60 degrees port side and a fleet of
enemy ships 92 degrees starboard. Knowing that the best defense is a good offense, you decide to attack. And now, armed
with an arsenal of over 100 high-powered weapons, you proceed to destroy everything that stands in the way of total sea
control.
Based on the original Harpoon, one of the most sophisticated and realistic contemporary war games
ever developed, Harpoon Classic 97 offers two games in one: (1) strategic, modern naval warfare with 50 new missions
and (2) a gateway to Harpoon On-line with free internet play via AOL. Containing new displays, new and updated
scenarios and a more intuitive approach, Harpoon Classic 97 will continue to test your growing expertise.

Reviews:
Computer Gaming World, April 1997
"Harpoon is the Iowa class battleship of serious naval games. The underlying structure is so solid
that it's worth any number of patches and add-ons to keep it around. This latest refit not only polishes the model and
centralizes the many battlesets, but also adds features that enhance the original. Interactive Magic correctly choose
Harpoon Classic as a base, avoiding the multimedia excesses of Harpoon II."
"Veterans will enjoy not only the complete collection of Harpoon battlesets, covering the Cold War
and the period after 1990, but also a new calculus for conflict with the EC2000 battleset. Its paradigm is that an
European Union, free of NATO, challenges the economic interests of the U.S. Ensuing trade wars heat up into a series of
small conflicts involving the latest deadly toys. How would the U.S. fare, in limited actions, against traditional
allies who were backed by Russia? The Scenario Editor is a pleasure for players who'll want to create their own
battles."
"In a nutshell, Harpoon 97 continues a tradition of elegant and enjoyable, if admittedly complex,
gaming. The open-endedness and continuing improvement of this series make it one of gaming's jewels, and it's well
worth the purchase for any naval enthusiast."
