"Sports Interactive has taken everything great about the franchise and
pumped it up a notch. Stats and rules are all typically updated, the database
now holds around 250,000 players in 88 divisions across a maximum of 39
nations, of which you play in as many as you like depending on your PC spec.
Thankfully, those with computers that don't quite reach the heights required
for most PC titles these days will find solace here - CM 4 will select the best
number of leagues and size database suited to your spec, with enough leeway to
go over it slightly if you want more football cake than your initial
serving."
"When it all comes together, complete with the ever troublesome media,
better interaction from the more demanding supporters, the ability to farm off
players to other clubs (at the risk of making them feel unwanted - aww),
wondrous little touches like sportsmanship and the interface that grows on you
faster than expected, it adds up to an insanely addictive experience. There are
a few little grievances that have been sorted out via a recently released patch
on Sports Interactive's website, but none of the problems are damaging to the
pie flavoured authenticity, foot stomping excitement and downright emotional
intensity of the gameplay - certainly not enough to mark the game down
for."
"So we say this. Once you've finished reading this review, put down your hot
cup of cha, get up and calmly walk over to your significant other and
apologise. Go on. Get it out of the way. Because once this game has settled
into your veins and turned you into a crazed wide-eyed addict, the chances are
you wont get the chance to do anything else other than cheer, chant, click and
curse your way through one of the most compulsive footballing experiences
around. A certified match winner indeed."
