Reviews:
CD-ROM Today, May 1996
"To get a quick mental snapshot of Arcade America,
imagine Mario on steroids, or maybe Sonic the Hedgehog as Elwood Blues. In this
case, however, our hero is a blob of a kid named Joey who must travel from one
U.S. city to another rescuing his monster pals (they were scattered all over
the country in an explosion). Joey's ultimate goal is to gather his buddies up
and make it to Woodstock in time for their scheduled performance.
"Although it's a humorous spin on an old style of game, it's
still challenging. In addition to the standard arcade action, belly bumping is
required to complete the game. (Joey is not your typical skinny, slick hero.)
Bonuses and power-ups will help you advance quickly. Tips and passwords are
also included in the package, but these cheats may not be enough for some
novices.
The 10 locations, 40 levels, and three skill settings
provide for plenty of manic game play. And the humor, which ranges from silly
to crude, is nonstop. The jokes might be offensive to some, and the gaming may
be too hard for others, but Arcade America is an entirely new challenge
that won't disappoint those who enjoy platform games, rock 'n' roll, and
twisted humor."
