Top 100 CD-ROMs from PC Magazine
1994
A Complete Resource for Worldwide
Adventure Travel
This is a multimedia CD-ROM employing motion video, audio,
color photographs and in-depth descriptions of more than 1,000 travel
adventures from around the world. Decide where you want to go and what activity
you want to embark on, then scroll through the dozens of hiking, biking,
ecotours, rafting trips or international peace programs waiting for you. A
click of the mouse reveals maps, video, costs and descriptions of adventures
that will transport you to new worlds and regions.
You can find adventures that are suitable for all ages.
There are tours just for women or older adults. Adventures allows you to
"click" to find the tours that are easy or difficult or suitable for those with
young children or tight budgets. You can find language and cooking lessons,
volunteer vacations with Habitat for Humanity and hiking treks in Nevada or as
far away as Nepal. You can learn to sail or climb mountains with Outward Bound,
watch mountain gorillas in Rwanda or wolves in Minnesota and view caribou
migrations in Canada.
This disc is getting quite dated now, but really full of
interesting places to go.

Requirements:
12MHz 80386 SX or better, 2MB RAM (4MB recommended), Windows
version 3.1 or higher, 30MB hard drive, SVGA display, audio board, mouse.
Tested OK on Windows XP.

PC Magazine, September 13, 1994
"Adventures will help you plan a vacation even if you
initially don't know what you want to do or where you want to do it. Search its
database of 1,160 activities until you find something exciting. Pick a state,
province, or country and use the pull-down list to scan the attractions. You
can also query by activity, selecting from 30 categories - which include aerial
sports, biking, economy vacations, and snow sports. Or you can use the
custom-search feature to find some of the activities, festivals, and events
occurring in a particular month.
"You can also use the search feature to generate a list of
specialized activities. Select those adventures classified as 'difficult' and
you'll get a list of nine excruciating vacations, including climbing mount
McKinley, trekking at nosebleed altitudes in Nepal, and rafting the Futaleufu
River in Patagonia. If those are too tame, touring Hungary on horseback might
get your blood flowing.
"The disk contains about 2,500 color photographs and 40
minutes of video supplied by state travel departments. For each adventure,
there's a written description along with dates, cost, and contact information.
About 60 percent of the adventures are outside the U.S., so this is an ideal CD
if you plan on traveling abroad."
